Hi All, I am guessing I am not alone in feeling like winter just won’t end. And it’s not just the weather. I think the gray days just start to make me feel a little beat down. Yesterday was a rough morning getting Boeden out the door to school. Just an off day. A few hours after I got him to school, Izzy randomly texted me the attached video. It is from 4 years ago and she just wrote “look how much progress he has made”. She had no idea we had had a rough morning- but the text came at the perfect time…. I must have watched the video 30 times yesterday. Maybe more. I definitely lose sight of his progress. And sometimes it’s hard to appreciate progress when you are in the thick of it! Izzy’s text was such a perfect reminder that we are making progress, even on days that feel like we are maybe even regressing. It made me stop and think back to the days that we just hoped Boeden would be able to communicate with us. It also made me stop and appreciate how hard this kid works every day. Poor guy has a lot of challenges. And does a lot of therapy. But I suppose most of us have more challenges than people might realize. And work harder than people might realize. I get it. So this message is for all of you who are working hard. At whatever it might be. As I tell Boeden everyday when I drop him at the shuttle: “We can do hard things”. I also tell him that I will have a fun snack waiting for him when I pick him up. Lately, he has started calling me from the shuttle on his way home to let me know what he wants for snack. I know it sounds insane, and a little bit like I work for him. Oh, I DO work for him! 100% But talking about snack distracts him from his separation anxiety and helps me get him on the shuttle….plus it gives me an excuse to bake something fun almost every day! So, this week I am baking for you all on Friday! I might add in a few items for Flash on Friday since it’s my sister and my niece’s birthday next week, and I will be putting together a few care packages for them! We will post everything on Instagram. Have a great weekend! Heather
