The Whiplash of Parenthood

I think moms should get multiple sets of heart strings, so that when we wear through one set, we can just slap on a new set.

This week my heart strings were ripped to shreds.

I think I mentioned that a neuropsychologist suggested that we consult a neurologist and consider “brain imaging” for Boeden. My good friend (and medical savior) Julia is a pediatric ICU doc and got us in with one of the best pediatric neurologists.

Our initial appointment with our new neurologist  was on Tuesday. I'm not sure what I expected.  Possibly I hadn’t even let myself think about it. But suffice to say this brilliant doctor was also perplexed by Boeden. He did the most thorough exam- and was honestly so kind and gentle- knowing that Lance and I were on the edge of our seats hoping he would have some answers, and hopefully nothing too scary to share.

The neurologist ordered a brain MRI, sleep deprived EEG and genetic testing.

I think just knowing that another person doesn’t understand Boeden’s brain made me feel a little untethered. It wasn’t a newsflash- more of being forced to face reality.

Anyway, appointments like this always rock my world for a few days, but I tend to recalibrate.

And, I had a big 18th birthday to celebrate on Wednesday, so thankfully I was sorta forced out of my funk!

Bensten has always loved celebrating other people on his birthday. I will never forget when he was turning 12- he asked Lance to take him to Lululemon to buy me a present to thank me for giving birth to him. Are you kidding me- who does that?

Well this year he got us all again. He decided to write letters to the 18 most influential people in his first 18 years of life. He showed me all but mine ahead of time- and let’s just say I was a puddle. That kid doesn’t take anything for granted and spreads good vibes. I feel so lucky to be his mom!

Okay, so about the bakery…..are we ready to switch to Thursdays? I know in previous summers you all have preferred we switch our bakery day to Thursday to better align with travel and whatnot…..Feel free to message with your thoughts/ preference.

But for this week, we are still baking Friday. I am offering a few new, fun and delicious items. But limited quantities since I have never mass produced dot cakes! I did make them for Bensten’s friends last night and we all enjoyed them! :)

Have a great weekend!

xo,

Heather
