Technically Challenged, Sweetly Blessed Being an Aunt

Can we talk about technology for a minute? I am the first to admit that I love technological advancements that make our lives easier. 

Robot vacuums. Yes. 

Self-driven cars. Maybe. 

Life360. Absolutely (except when we are trying to surprise the family with a kid coming home from college!)

Online shopping. YES YES YES.

AI. Man, it’s so over my head- I think if I could understand it, I would be a big fan. But it scares me.  Though I do love how my ChaptGPT knows I am a baker, and ties all my questions back to Schone’s Scones.  But then I read how kids become “friends” with AI and no longer want to have real friends. That is scary.

I was lucky enough to raise my first 2 kids mostly before technology exploded and social media took hold. Iz and Lil were in middle school when Instagram became popular. By the grace of God, they just weren’t super into it. They rarely posted (probably cause they were either in a pool or asleep!) But trust me, they saw other posts, and I am painfully aware of how kids can see everything that they were not invited to. 

And boys are just different. Bensten uses technology mostly to track sports scores. Boeden’s only request for social media so far has been to get on my Facebook to look on Marketplace for used snow blowers. That kid is really something else!

Anyway, my point is- I don’t understand 95% of the new technology out there. But to run a business, you sorta need some technology. I have used mostly Instagram to keep our customers in the loop regarding what we are offering each week etc. And I love when people tag us in their posts/stories. Some of our customers are the cutest little things!

But here is the question. Is the Schone’s Scones instagram account supposed to follow everyone back, or no?  Five years ago when we started this l was told not to follow anyone on my business account. But that means if you tag SchonesScones and I don’t follow you on my personal account, I will not see the post.  And last night, I was tagged in the cutest post. My youngest nephew, whom I am completely obsessed with, was introduced to Schone's Scones when we all went to the beach this summer. He is literally the cutest kid - but give him a muffin and he is off the charts cute (and even happier than his already amazingly sweet disposition!) And I feel like it’s only fair that I share his adorableness with all of you….but I don’t know how. Cause even though my SIL tagged Schones Scones, I don’t follow her on that account, so I can’t share it.  Am I doing this wrong? Should I just start following all 1400 followers?

I feel like I need a tutor. And probably a social media intern. But for now, I will keep sending these old fashion emails with the sweet pictures of my nephew cause it feels wrong not to share the wealth. I seriously love him so much!

And I am serious, I will take any and all technology advice I can get. Until then, this week’s menu is below!
