Little People Bring me BIG Joy!

I think everyone knows I am very thankful for my family. Not only would Schone’s Scones not exist without their support and encouragement, but they make me laugh, they make me proud and I feel very lucky that they are my 5 favorite people in the whole wide world. And I am incredibly thankful for the Schone’s Scones community- which has grown so organically. To think 5 years ago my girls posted 2 loaves of bread on their Instagram and that was the start of our little bakery and so many new friendships! I am grateful to bake for all of you.
I have shared that my friend Taylor was really the only person that I have ever “baked with”. We didn’t really bake together, but she was a part of the bakery during the pandemic, so she was literally the only person we let in our house for many years! We grew very close while baking our way through the pandemic. Now, she is married and has an adorable son, and has started her own cookie business (Taylor Lane Cookies) and I am very thankful to have her and her family in our life. When her son hits milestones, I feel excitement as if he is my kid! It's so fun!
But I think what I am most thankful for this year is getting to watch my youngest brother and his wife start a family. Tyler and Shannon have become the most amazing parents to the most adorable little boy, Jordan. And maybe it’s that I am old, and seeing how hard life is as age starts to slow you down and your kids start to fly, and your house starts to feel a little less chaotic. Jordan is truly a ray of sunshine that lights up our lives. He has the best little personality. But more than anything, Jordan is proof that good things happen to good people. Ty and Shann are great people and our world needs little people who are learning from good, kind examples.
I would say I try to be a pretty level headed mom. Lance and I have never focused on grades, rather we are happy as long as we know our kids are trying their best. Yes, I am strict about them making their beds and silly things like that, but we don’t have any hard and fast parenting rules. But I do have a few sayings that my family might be sick of hearing….
Good things happen to good people.
Karma
Be your own person.
Run your own race.
What goes around comes around.
And of course, be kind and polite.
There have been many times I have questioned my parenting. Lance can probably tell you many times I have busted into his office in a total tizzy and said “I think I am raising our kids to get steam rolled in the real world.” What’s the saying, “nice people don’t win ball games”.
Tyler and Shannon and Jordan are proof that good things happen to good people. Back when Bensten was hospitalized, Ty and Nurse Shann did not leave our side. Do you know how comforting it was to have our own personal nurse there to help explain things? And Tyler literally slept in the waiting room, just waiting for any sort of update. He would drive me home at night to see my other kids and drive me right back first thing in the morning. The day they transported B to NRH, only one parent could ride in the ambulance, so Tyler literally drove me behind the ambulance the whole way- he never let me lose sight of my boy. He also started the #pray4bman and I am 100% certain all the prayers helped B’s tremendous recovery!
So while I have a lot to be thankful for, seeing their family grow not only makes me happy, but I am thankful to get to watch their little guy grow up. I already miss those days (not the sleepless nights part) but the unabandoned happiness of a little person running around. Or teaching them to wave. Or clap. It’s so much more rewarding than teaching Boeden exponents. ;)
So I hope you all have time to enjoy family, or whatever brings you happiness, this holiday. I feel like I have not left my kitchen since before Halloween, so I am looking forward to a few days off! I am still deciding whether to bake next Friday (December 5th)....feel free to let me know if you might want me to bake, or if you might still be stuffed!!
xo,
Heath
