A Little Reality Check....
Hi!
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I need a reality check. I can get bogged down by the littlest things.
Earlier today, a good friend of mine, who is a pediatric ICU doctor, texted to see if I had any baked goods she could buy for her team. They’ve had a really tough few weeks, with far more losses than usual.
I honestly cannot imagine how these doctors and nurses experience that kind of loss and then go home to their own families — in my friend’s case, her three young sons — without carrying some of that sadness home with them. I know I would. And, knowing me, I’d probably be overly neurotic too. Okay, extra overly neurotic!
Anyway, I didn’t have any baked goods ready, but I immediately put some in the oven and Izzy ran them up to the ICU.
Of course my friend wanted to pay me, but there was no way I was going to accept anything.
Because once upon a time, we were one of those ICU families — and we were lucky enough to have a happy ending.
I will never be able to repay the INOVA doctors and nurses who cared for Bensten and our family.
A little while later, my friend sent me this text from her team:

It made me realize that it has been a long time since I offered our Frontline Donations.
So I added them back to the website. Over the next few weeks, we’ll make some extra deliveries to the Pediatric ICU. It’s a very small gesture, but hopefully it reminds the doctors and nurses caring for incredibly sick kids — and sometimes experiencing unimaginable heartbreak — that there are people out here thinking about them and grateful for what they do.
This week’s menu is below, and everything is available on our website.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Xo,Heather
