Both of my girls had a crazy week. And not crazy like a lot of school work. Like crazy stuff that had nothing to do with classwork. And stuff that weighed heavy on them. Honestly, it was stuff that 19 or 20 year old kids haven’t really learned how to deal with. But, as I kept reminding them (I probably sounded soooo annoying) these are important life experiences that will help them in the real world. But suffice to say, Iz and Lil had an emotionally draining week!
Thankfully, they have both created a life at college that includes people who totally get them. And who swooped in and helped them navigate this crazy week.
So of course, I baked for all of them. I spent all day Wednesday in the kitchen, frantically baking and packaging so I could get care packages to Fed Ex by 5pm! I rolled in at 4:57pm! So today, lots of cookies, muffins and energy bites will be arriving in Boston and Davidson. But anyone who has followed the bakery for a bit knows that I love random acts of kindness.
So in honor of my girls, today is a ‘random act of kindness’ day for the bakery! I am going to box up several combo boxes and add them to randomly selected customer’s orders– it will be a mix of delivery and pick up orders (FLASH included). If you receive a free box of baked goods, you can either keep it for your family, or pass it along as a random act of kindness.
I am grateful for all the people looking out for my kids. Sometimes being a friend, coach, teacher, Dean means doing stuff that is technically outside of your job description. But stepping up makes a huge impact. Take it from me, who was hundreds of miles away from my girls, but had the peace of mind of knowing they were surrounded by amazing, caring people!
Next week we will bake on Friday! This new coffee cake is my new downfall. I think I ate half a loaf, both times I made it this week! (There are pecans in it, so that counts as protein, so it counts as nutritious meal, right?) And Lance and Bensten are loving the new Rocky Road Cookies. They are rich chocolate, with peanuts and marshmallows swirled throughout. It really is like a scoop of ice cream in cookie form!
Have a great weekend!
Heather
