Gadgets, Anti-Aging, and Questionable Sweet Potatoes

I am such a sucker. As much as I tell my kids you can’t believe everything you read online…..I believe a lot of what I read/ see online!I love a good gadget- especially one that will save me time. And I want to try anything and everything that says it can erase signs of aging. As much as I would like to say I don’t believe everything I read on the internet, this Nancy Guthrie situation would prove otherwise. (I have been obsessed- but it’s become too much of a roller coaster, I had to switch my focus back to gadgets, food and anti-aging!)

Just this week I realized I have not had a facial in over a year. My last round of facials were microneedling and I really thought it helped improve the collagen and appearances under my eyes. But the facials take time and you are supposed to do a series of 3, and they are really expensive. Soooo, I happened to see an ad for an “at-home micro-needling facial system”.  It comes with its own sterile needles, I mean what could possibly go wrong?!?!? I hit order and am anxiously awaiting my youthful skin!  I will report back.  https://qureskincare.com/

And then there are the vibration plates.I have put several in my cart, but have not yet pulled the trigger. I am still on the fence, but feel like that might be the next gadget I need to get. Has anyone tried one? I mean, I am way too old to worry about shaken baby syndrome, what else bad could happen? https://lifeprofitness.com/collections/all-in-one-plates

And you all know I love love love my Roborock Saro. I mean, my floors are literally squeaky clean every morning when we wake up. It might be the most brilliant gadget ever invented. There is just one small hiccup. Boomer doesn’t seem to like a little circular machine with a bright light chasing him around in the middle of the night! So we are in the process of trying to help Booms acclimate to his new friend. I have been running the robot during the day so that hopefully Boomer won’t come wake us up 5x a night to let us know he doesn’t like our newest cleaning service!  (It’s like having a newborn currently- I would rather clean my own floors than deal with Boomer’s mental challenges!) https://us.roborock.com/pages/robot-vacuums?name=saros-series

And I almost forgot- the magic mitt that cleans dog hair off of furniture. I'm sure you have seen the infomercials! I ordered it expecting it to be a total gimmick. NOPE- it’s actually amazing. I was going through those rollers daily! I am a big fan! 10 out of 10!!  https://uprootclean.com/

And I think you all know I started baking as a way to give my kids healthier snack alternatives, since 3 of the 4 are athletes and I realized I could avoid lots of preservatives and artificial/chemicals if I made their food from scratch.  And then cooking and baking became a creative outlet as well. But I definitely continue to try to feed my family healthy foods. So a few weeks ago I read online that purple sweet potatoes are incredibly nutritious. We all love regular sweet potatoes, so I fell for it. After searching lots of markets, Izzy finally found them at Mom’s Market. So I had her buy a ton. I immediately made mashed purple sweet potatoes and I think the direct quote from one of my lovely children was “ I don’t remember what baby food tasted like, but I bet it tasted better than this!”  And let me just say, there was plenty of butter and cream to try and improve the taste. THEY WERE GROSS! 0 out 10- do not recommend!

Anyway, all of this to say that the world wide web is essentially the wild wild west. Ai, trolls, people sending fake ransom emails….I kinda miss the good old days. Getting cooking magazines in the mail and tearing out recipes. And less opportunities to be swayed by random products that will either make me young again or shake my organs to the point of no return…..I kinda miss not knowing what I didn’t know….you know?

Menu is below for next Friday! AND, I just learned that I can uber baked goods to people outside the McLean area. For example, I sent a bag of cookies and muffins to Mosaic last week for $10. So if that is something you are interested in, let me know and I can see what the charge would be based on your location!

Xo,

Heather
