How I Accidentally Bought a Cross Country Banquet

I was just cleaning up my desk and lamenting that I really don’t keep up with the blog. I love to write, and our life is such a shitshow, I usually have plenty to say! I guess there just hasn’t been much time lately.

Between parent- teacher conferences (which I love, but they take a lot of time) and holiday prep and special orders (which I also love but they take a lot of time)....Plus I seem to have a knack for being a great example for why no good deed goes unpunished…

This week was the end of Bensten’s Cross Country season. Their new coach was awesome and did so much to help bring the team together. He picked the location for the end of season banquet, and told everyone how much it would cost per person. (The banquet was at Coopers Hawk in Ashburn on Saturday. I couldn’t go because I was working on my 600 muffin order, but Lance and Bensten went.)  The coach is a young guy, newly married, and certainly didn’t need the hassle of collecting/paying the tab, so I offered to be the one to collect the money and pay the tab…or offered to have Lance do it!)

After the banquet, Lance walked into the kitchen with a unique look on his face. I knew something was up, but I was also frantically running trays of muffins from oven to rack, so I think he was hesitant to tell me….Turns out we collected $1096 and the tab was $2100. We had just covered the more than  ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR difference!

What the heck?!!?!?

When I tell you Lance is the nice one in our relationship…..I’m not kidding. He just paid the bill. I would have freaked out and at least asked for an itemized list of what we were paying for.

So last night, after I finished baking, I sat down to try and reconcile the bill and figure out the difference. There were lots of additional charges (A/V equipment, additional drinks, tax and gratuity that hadn’t been accounted for….but something is literally and figuratively not adding up!

So my desk is a mess, covered with calculations and check lists of who paid, and how much….and I am still struggling to figure it out. The team has offered to help cover the cost, which is very nice.

BUT HOW DO I GET MYSELF INTO THESE SITUATIONS??

But on a much happier note- the toy drive for INOVA is bringing our family sooooo much happiness. And we LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing all the different people who are donating. You all have been so generous!!!  Our pool family. Our neighbors. My high school and college friends. Today, a family who’s son was in Bensten’s preschool class……and Bensten actually BIT when they were playing, sent a donation. I mean, that’s really nice!  (We literally have not seen them in 13 years- but despite the biting episode, B and the little boy were good friends back in the day!)

Anyway, I do hope to get back to writing more regularly.  But the holidays tend to be hectic, so I will be very inconsistent for the next little while. For now, the menu for the next 2 weeks is open on our site. I have added inventory and will try to keep doing so. I was hoping to make more cinnamon rolls today, but decided to deep clean my house instead! But if anything is sold out, just click the ‘notify me’ button and you will receive an email if I restock!

And if you want to donate to the toy drive, the link is below. I have closed out the Donate to Frontline for now. You all jumped all over that, so I am figuring out how to take a Thanksgiving feast plus baked goods to the  hospital after we eat on Thanksgiving night for everyone working the holiday! So thank you all for helping make that happen!  I will open more frontline donations for the December holidays….but I need to get through November first!

Xo,

Heather
