Okay, I am feeling kinda emotional today. Or maybe emotional isn’t the right word- I don’t know… Is there a hybrid word of emotional and exhausted? Exhaustional? This week has been heavy on my heartstring, but also really positive. Summer is a grind. I spend all winter wishing for it, and then summer hits me like a ton of bricks and I can’t seem to find my groove until it’s almost over!!
This week was intense. Boeden wanted to try and swim at an away meet on Monday- but his anxiety was at epic levels. We totally left the decision up to him, but by the time the 6pm meet rolled around, I was a puddle. Exhausted from watching the poor kid angst over the event that would ultimately leave him feeling so fulfilled and proud. But getting up to that pool was akin to climbing Mt Everest. Our swim team (coaches, parents, kids) is so supportive of each other. It’s actually the most amazing group of people. Long story short, Boeden successfully swam the 50 Freestyle and felt amazing. The next day, we returned home from swim practice to find a huge pallet on our front porch. And an incredible note to Boeden from ‘Captain L’ the elusive mascot of the Langley swim team that only appears in a blue morph suit at meets….Boeden ‘s head almost exploded. He was so excited. (He is collecting pallets to build a mini-house in our backyard. Yet another moment of weakness on my part- but he is soooo excited for his ‘no cost project’ that was clearly inspired by his excessive time on YouTube!) The family who delivered the pallet had pieced together enough details about Boeden to know the direct route to his heart. And mine. I am so grateful. And BTW, this family is also a regular Schone’s Scones customer! Double gratitude!
Then we had our generator installed. (We had a partial generator, but it had to be turned on manually, and I had a crazy fear that I was going to plug the wrong end in and blow up our house. So if Lance was traveling, which is relatively often, and the power went out- we were camping til he returned!) Anyway, Boeden was very excited. When the crew arrived, he jumped out of bed and was seriously the most excited I have ever seen him. He spent the entire day following the guys around. The guys were so incredibly kind to him. They totally let him be involved, even let him use some of their tools and feel like he was assisting with the installation. It sounds so simple, and I know Boeden slowed down their progress. But they saw how excited and interested he was, and genuinely enjoyed having a young kid show interest in their trade. Sounds simple, but it totally made my heart explode with gratitude. Shout out Vance Electric!
And perhaps the biggest tug at my heart was your generosity towards our healthcare workers!!
The donations to the frontline workers were the first item to sell out this week! You have no idea how much that means to me- and our entire family. It also made for a very happy emergency room at INOVA! And I couldn’t even fill them all this week, so we will continue to send baked goods next week! This little bakery is such an amazing group of people.
And as I am writing this – I received an email that my Wheats account is past due. That company must think I am the biggest scatterbrain- I literally rely on their ‘past due’ emails to pay bills!! So I looked at the pile of mail on my desk and also discovered this note. Also from a Schone’s Scones customer. You guys are truly the best. I feel like I have my own personal hype squad. Thank you for being such a positive part of my world. I am beyond grateful!
And on that note- I am taking next week off. I will tackle the piles of mail and try to be a little less exhaustional. (I might be the only one impressed by my new word!)! I will possibly offer a few flash sales, so keep an eye on Instagram. And if you aren’t on Instagram and want us to shoot you an email on days we flash- just send us a message!
Xo,
Heather
