Hi -
Rain depresses me. And it makes my hair extra frizzy. And the storms we got this week make our dog even more insane than he normally is! Boomer is 120 pounds and about as graceful as an elephant. So when the rain and winds kicked up at 3am this week, Boomer tried something new- he jumped up on our bed, panting so aggressively I was sure he was going to have a heart attack. Honestly, I almost had a heart attack when he bounded up on our bed. He usually sleeps out in the family room and cannot be bothered, even when Izzy comes home in the middle of the night after a shift at the hospital. He rarely comes into our room- and never jumps up on our bed in the middle of the night! So his new mid-night ninja maneuver was slightly startling.
ANYWAY, as Boomer and I were each having a heart attack, Lance slept soundly. Right there, in the same bed.
HOW?
HOW do men/ dads sleep so soundly? Yet moms can hear when their kid sneezes three states away?
After a few minutes of Boomer's antics, and me (loudly) talking to him as if he were a human- thinking my words would calm him- Lance eventually did wake up.
After a pretty valiant attempt by both of us to get Boomer to calm down, Lance offered to take him back to the family room and sleep on the couch. And I went right back to sleep in my comfy bed..
It wasn’t much, but man did that move make me love Lance.
I'm not sure if you saw my instagram post this week, but Lance also surprised me and sat in his car in my dentist’s parking lot while I had the first phase of Dental Debacle 2024. I was so nervous- and seeing his car made me feel SO.MUCH.BETTER.
So what is my point?
This week (October 2) is Lance and my 25th wedding anniversary. Just typing that makes me feel insanely old- which I am. But I am also insanely grateful.
Marriage is not always easy. Looking back, Lance and I have been through so much together. Good. Bad. Scary. But I honestly hit the husband jackpot. Sure, he drives me crazy sometimes. But he is the calm to my storm. My rock. The voice of reason that I can always rely on. He knows me inside and out- and still loves me! He is the best dad. He is the kindest person I have ever met. He never speaks ill of ANYONE. I could go on and on. But perhaps Lance’s most important trait (as it pertains to this audience) is that Schone’s Scones would not exist without him.
He is the brains behind the operation. He is at Restaurant Depot when the sun comes up every Saturday. He is my biggest cheerleader. He picks up the slack around the house so that I can bake for you all. Honestly, aside from baking, he does EVERYTHING!
I love Lance with every ounce of my being and am so gratefulI I get to do life with him. And let’s be honest, ‘Bensten’s Buns’ just doesn’t sound as good as Schone’s Scones. So I think I picked wisely! ;) (Bensten is my maiden name as well as our son’s name!!)
Next week’s menu is posted and available on our website! Have a great weekend!
Xo,
Heather
